PANAMA APPROVES LAW FOR ELECTRIC MOBILITY

Last Monday, April 25, Panama approved Law 295 that encourages Electric Mobility in Transportation, which will come into effect next year, January 1st, 2023.

The Transit and Land Transport Authority (ATTT) will promote a steady replacement of mass transit fleets (buses and taxis), as well as government cars from fossil fuels to electric vehicles. Thus, in 2025 10% of vehicles of public entities must be electric; 25% in 2027 and 40% in 2030.  While for public transport it will be 10% in 2025; 20% in 2027 and 33% in 2030.

Electric vehicles will use a green plate, and will be exempt from the selective consumption tax until 2030 (0%).
