EL SALVADOR - EXECUTIVE DECREE IN THE BRANCH OF HEALTH NO. 09 - CONTAINMENT MEASURES IN THE FIELD OF FOOD ACTIVITY IN RESTAURANTS AND OTHER SIMILARS RELATED TO THE CARE OF THE SANITARY EMERGENCY COVID-19

On March 17, 2020, Executive Decree No. 12 in the Health Branch was issued, as a consequence of Legislative Decree No. 593, dated March 14, 2020, by which the Congress declared a State of National Emergency, a State of Public Calamity and Natural Disasters following the pandemic by COVID-29, and in which, among other measures, empowers the Ministry of Health to execute all the necessary actions, in order to comply with the Plan for Prevention, Containment and Response to the pandemic by COVID-19 and to provide essential public services to prevent its spread among the individuals of the Republic of El Salvador.

The purpose of Decree No. 09 is to protect the health of the population through the timely implementation of sanitary emergency measures specifically oriented to the food activity sector. Its guidelines must be observed throughout the national territory and, in particular, by all those restaurant owners and similar businesses, such as dining rooms or food businesses, regardless of whether they are formal or not.

As a specific measure, the Decree mandates to suspend the public services of restaurants and dining rooms and in general of businesses that provide food services whether are formal or informal businesses for a period of 15 days from the entry into force of this Decree.

 This Decree entered into effect on March 17, 2020 and will be effective 15 days later.
