Experience

Carolina initially focused her practice in the field of Administrative and Real Estate Law as well as in the academic field, where she was an assistant then teacher at Universidad Dr. José Matías Delgado. Afterwards, and before joining Arias, Carolina worked as a legal analyst in the field of research at the Department of Legal Studies of the Salvadoran Foundation for Economic and Social Development (FUSADES- for its acronym in Spanish), which is a Salvadoran think tank. Since her incorporation at the law firm, Carolina has been active in the area of new investment projects in the textile and manufacturing sector, services and others, by representing multinational companies in the most relevant investment of such sectors in the country, in matters related to free zone regime, environmental law, energy, corporate, registry, regulatory compliance and other legal subjects related to the operation of said companies. Moreover she has participated in the development and establishment of facilities, including the elaboration of contractual model for the execution of said works, due diligence, regulatory compliance and obtaining governmental licenses and authorizations.

In 2007, Carolina joined Arias as an associate and has been active in the following areas:

- In the area of new investment projects in the textile and maquila industry, where she has represented multinational corporations in the most important investments in the country on issues related to free trade zone, international trade, and she advises in general in the day-to-day matters related to the operation of these companies.


- In the energy area, Carolina has advised various industries on issues related to contracts for the sale and supply of energy, maintenance of electrical installations, the energy market, among others, and also advised from a regulatory perspective on the establishment and operation of electrical installations associated with the generation and distribution of energy.


- In the corporate area, Carolina advises different industries and companies, including registration, mercantile obligations and other legal matters relating to the operation of such companies. She has also participated in the development and establishment of facilities, due diligence for acquisition of companies and their regulatory compliance, assisting in the development of contractual models for the execution of these projects and in obtaining governmental approvals and licenses.


- Carolina has advised various clients in different aircraft financing transactions from a local regulatory point of view, which has involved leases, subleases, and guarantees, involving local air operators. In that area, Carolina provides opinions and other advice related to issues arising from such transactions such as the registration of documents on the register. 


- In the environmental area Carolina attends businesses and industries in both regulatory setting as facilities or activities for operation issues, and has also assisted in specific procedures to environmental authorities.

Career
  • Law Degree from Universidad Dr. José Matías Delgado,  and has been authorized by the Supreme Court to act as an attorney.
  • In 2005 she was granted a Fulbright Scholarship by the United States Government to carry out her Master´s Degree.
  • LLM in International Legal Studies with a specialization in International Environmental Law from American University in Washington, D.C. 
  • Awarded with the "Edward Bou Award", which is an academic recognition given by the American University for her outstanding performance in the ILSP program.
  • Participated in the seminar "Introduction to the U.S. Legal System" at Tulane Law School in New Orleans in 2005.
  • Participated and attended seminars and conferences, both in El Salvador and abroad, related to environmental law, energy, real estate, aviation, and financing among others.
